- Wally and Susan Kooiman, owners of Peppermint Forest Christmas Shop (www.peppermintforest.com) recently acquired a trademark on the WonderLit™ line of artificial Christmas trees sold exclusively at Peppermint Forest. Each WonderLit™ tree is a prelit Christmas tree featuring both a revolutionary lighting system and one of Wally Kooiman’s unique designs. “This is something about which we’re very excited,” says Kooiman. “Buying a tree at Peppermint Forest has always been a singular experience, but we’re proud to say that now it’s a one-of-a-kind experience as well.” WonderLit™ is a unique line of Christmas trees that are prelit with light sets that have a computer chip in each light socket. The tiny chips monitor and control the flow of electricity so that the sets will remain lit even if a bulb burns out, gets crushed or loose, or comes out of the socket entirely. The trees themselves are designed by Wally Kooiman especially for Peppermint Forest Christmas Shop. The result is an end to the frustration of burned out light sets while decorating the Christmas tree and throughout the Christmas season. Since 1980, the Peppermint Forest has become a holiday tradition for shoppers throughout the Carolinas and beyond, earning prestigious recognition as an official North Carolina tourist attraction by the N.C. Department of Tourism. The retail store, which shares its location seasonally with Oasis Pools Plus Outdoor Living Showplace, is open each year from October through January. Peppermint Forest offers a winter wonderland of more than 150 Christmas trees, as well as a large selection of wreaths, garlands, decorations and collectibles.
