Senator Fred Smith, Republican Gubernatorial Candidate,

 Tours Haywood County

Senator Fred Smith, Republican gubernatorial candidate, had a whirlwind tour of Haywood County on Thursday, August 2nd.  Senator Smith visited with a group of home builders, some doctors, and The Mountaineer newspaper, to give his vision for what North Carolina could become under Republican leadership.

Accompanying Senator Smith were former 47th District Senator, Keith Presnell, and Chairman of the Haywood County Republican Party, Rich Lafrenz.  The day was highlighted by a barbecue given by Senator Smith to about 150 of his Haywood County supporters.  At the barbecue, Senator Smith announced that this was the first of 100 barbecues to be given across North Carolina, one in every county. Marge Carpenter, former NC Congresswoman, introduced Senator Smith. Chris Morrow, former president of the TARS (teen-aged Republicans) at Tuscola High School, started off the ceremony with a rousing rendition of The Star Spangled Banner.
